Assistant Manager/Manager (FTA), International Policy and Engagement

As a member of SBF’s Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Education & Outreach team, you are expected to have strong knowledge about Singapore’s FTAs and trade processes. You will develop expert knowledge conduct training and provide advisory services to enable Singapore businesses to benefit from Singapore’s vast network of FTAs and cross border trade. You will also seek feedback from businesses on our FTAs and trade compliance issues to facilitate our Government’s negotiations and review of these agreements. In addition, you will be expected to understand the context of trade compliance issues and market entry considerations companies face, and to work with knowledge partners for SBF to provide a comprehensive suite of solutions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To be the subject matter expert to provide expert advice to Singapore companies on using Singapore’s FTAs, and to mentor the rest of the SBF FTA team to do so.
  • To educate Singapore companies about Singapore’s FTAs. Plan and conduct trainings/workshops to educate companies on the use of Singapore FTAs. This includes developing FTA training modules, curriculum, materials, and a competency framework.
  • Develop guidebooks and collaterals (e.g. flyers, factsheets, newsletters) on Singapore’s FTAs to help SMEs to understand FTAs. 
  • Handle queries by companies on Singapore FTAs, including the conduct of 1-on-1 advisory sessions / clinics to help companies to understand the benefits of the FTAs for their business. This may include giving specific advice customized to the companies’ specific situation and market(s). 
  • Gather and consolidate companies’ inputs/ feedback on FTA-related problems and any other cross-border trade or investment issues facing companies in support of our Government’s FTA ongoing negotiations & reviews. 
  • Monitor trade policy issues & developments on Singapore FTAs to provide an impact analysis to Singapore companies.
  • Identify and establish collaborations with partners and key stakeholders (e.g. government, businesses, academia, etc.) to raise awareness on the benefits of Singapore’s FTAs and build the Singapore business community’s appreciation and capabilities in using these FTAs. 
  • To develop knowledge in Trade Compliance and other Trade issues (including relating to Digital Economy Agreements and Green Economy Agreements) by working with internal and external knowledge partners to develop expertise so that SBF can build in-house competency to enable business capability in these areas. 

Job Requirements:

  • A background in Commerce, Economics, Policy & Trade, Business Administration, or a relevant discipline is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in working on cross-border trade and investment policies and regulations. Applicants without this pre-requisite must have a good understanding of businesses’ interests and concerns in relation with cross-border trade and investment policies and regulations. 
  • A good understanding of the local and international business environment, as well as economic and geopolitical trends as they impact business.
  • Good analytical, consultation, planning, communication (verbal and written), presentation and event organisation skills.
  • A keen learner and proactive self-starter, with a willingness to work across a number of subject areas.
  • Flexible and agile, with the ability to multi-task and, quickly adapt in a fast-paced work environment.
