Business Community Commemorates SG50 with the Semi-Centennial Leadership Conference and Singapore Golden Jubilee Business Awards

- Fifty companies to be honoured with the Singapore Golden Jubilee Business Awards for their past achievements
The Conference comprises three panel discussions, namely, “Journeying through the Formative Years” which traces the path of companies from the British colonial and Straits Settlement period; “Succession Planning: Permeating Values from Sustainable Family Businesses” that discusses established family run businesses, and “The Singapore Story – Globally Competitive Enterprises” which examines how local companies can remain competitive.
The panel discussions will be joined by business leaders such as Mr Seah Kian Peng, CEO of NTUC FairPrice Co-operative Limited, Mr Lim Ho Kee, Chairman of Singapore Post Limited, Mr Alan Chan, CEO of Singapore Press Holdings Limited, Mr S.S. Teo, Managing Director of Pacific International Lines (Pte) Ltd, Mr Ron Sim, Founder, Chairman and CEO of OSIM International Limited, and Mr Mak Swee Wah, Executive Vice President Commercial of Singapore Airlines Limited.
The closing keynote address at the Conference will be delivered by Mr Ho Kwon Ping, Executive Chairman, Banyan Tree Holdings Limited. He will be speaking on “future-proofing” and sustaining Singapore’s success in the next 50 years and what holds for the future of Singapore.
At the event, 50 companies will be honoured with the Singapore Golden Jubilee Business Awards in recognition of their achievements and contributions over the decades. The companies were selected by an Awards Committee consisting of the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, DP Information Group and SBF.
SBF Chairman Mr S. S. Teo said, “Singapore companies have come a long way since the 1960s. As Singapore continues to progress into the next 50 years and beyond, it is imperative for businesses to remain competitive. We urge businesses to gear up and leverage opportunities beyond our shores. SBF, together with the local and foreign TACs, are committed to providing the necessary support to the Singapore business community. As the apex business chamber, SBF will work towards deepening the collaborations between the business community and the government.”
Mr Kwek Leng Beng, Executive Chairman of Hong Leong Group, said “Hong Leong Group has persevered, overcome challenges and has grown in tandem with Singapore. I am humbled by this award which recognises our contributions to our nation. We remain committed to support our government's efforts to take the country to the next level of development.”
