The Singapore Business Federation (SBF) leads business mission to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to boost bilateral trade and investment
26 March 2014 [Almaty, Kazakhstan] – Business ties with Central Asia will receive a boost with the visit of a Singapore business delegation to Almaty and Tashkent on 26 and 28 March 2014 respectively. The business mission organised by SBF, rides on the momentum of Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms Grace Fu’s recent visit to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in October 2013.
The business mission seeks to explore business and investment opportunities in the Kazakh and Uzbek markets and is led by Mr Percy Chan, SBF member and Managing Director and Chairman of Grandluxe Private Limited. The 13-member strong business delegation comprises of business leaders and senior representatives from diverse industries including business consultancy & financial services, commodities trading & trade financing, ICT, construction machinery & equipment, retail products & corporate gifts, solar energy and welding machinery & equipment.
Mission delegates will attend briefings by the ministries and government agencies of the host countries, and benefit from industrial visits and business-matching sessions. SBF will organise business forums in both countries to profile Singapore’s business competence and open doors for possible collaborations between Singapore businesses and their Central Asian counterparts.
Central Asia and Singapore have enjoyed warm bilateral ties at the official and business level. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Uzbek President Islam Karimov have both made state visits to Singapore in 2009 and 2007 respectively. According to International Enterprise Singapore’s Statlink records, the percentage increase in total bilateral trade values between Singapore and Kazakhstan, and Singapore and Uzbekistan in 2013 have grown by 153% and 158% respectively.
“This is indicative of the growing interest between the business communities and I believe that the partnerships and collaborations forged during the trip will bring about more robust exchanges and growth for our countries” said Mr Chan who is seeking for seeking for partners for his Singapore-manufactured corporate gifts and leather products.
As the apex business chamber representing 21,000 companies, SBF has been a springboard for numerous Singapore-based companies, helping them seek trade opportunities and venture overseas. This is the second mission to Kazakhstan and the third to Uzbekistan. SBF remains committed to driving more business-to-business exchanges to spur collaboration between business communities in Singapore and Central Asia.
