SBF leads business mission to Chongqing in conjunction with PM Lee’s official visit2 Sep 2016 [Singapore] - Following the success of the first large-scale business mission to Chongqing, China, in April this year, Singapore Business Federation (SBF) will lead a second business delegation to the city in conjunction with the official visit of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong from 3 to 4 September 2016.
The delegation comprises nine senior representatives of Singapore’s large enterprises from the Chongqing Connectivity Initiative (CCI)-related sectors, including the six Industry Advisors of CCI (Please refer to Annex A for list of delegates). The Industry Advisors will be attending the CCI Joint Implementation Committee meeting co-chaired by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Chan Chun Sing and Chongqing Mayor Huang Qifan on 1 September 2016. The CCI Industry Advisors will gain first-hand information on the latest development of the project. The business delegation will have a meeting with Prime Minister Lee.
This is the first business delegation accompanying PM Lee on an official visit to Chongqing since the launch of the CCI in November 2015.
SBF and International Enterprise (IE) Singapore co-organised the first large-scale business delegation to Chongqing in April 2016 in conjunction with Minister Chan Chun Sing’s visit. This second business mission will provide the platform for business representatives from Singapore and Chongqing to further collaboration efforts.
Chongqing’s newly approved status as a Free-Trade Zone (FTZ) is also expected to boost trade and facilitate cross-border investments. As the largest amongst China’s four direct-controlled municipalities, the city serves to connect the sea and land routes under the Belt and Road Initiative – the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road” and the “Silk Road Economic Belt”, making it a multi-modal transportation hub.
Mr S S Teo, SBF Chairman and CCI Industry Advisor, said “We would like to congratulate our Chinese counterparts on the milestone announcement of Chongqing as a new FTZ, and look forward to strengthening collaborations on this third government-led project. With Chongqing’s vital position in the Belt and Road initiative, we must move quickly to seize opportunities, especially during a stage when this project is newly launched.”
CCI is the third Government-to-Government project between Singapore and China. The CCI’s focus sectors of finance, aviation, transport and logistics, and information and communications technology are areas which are aligned to the strengths of Singapore businesses and the needs of Chinese enterprises looking to venture abroad.
