SBF has been re-appointed by Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry to organise the country’s participation at this year’s CAEXPO, which runs from 12 to 15 September 2018. Dr Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister of State for National Development & Trade and Industry toured the Singapore pavilions at CAEXPO on 11 September and also attended the Singapore-Guangxi Business Networking Dinner on 12 September.
Themed "Jointly Build the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Forging a China-ASEAN Community of Innovation", the 15th CAEXPO marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the China-ASEAN strategic partnership, as well as the China-ASEAN Year of Innovation. Innovation will be a highlight of the 15th CAEXPO with a focus on upgrading the manufacturing sector in China and ASEAN countries by promoting advanced information and smart technologies, strengthening bilateral cooperation in industrial capacity and equipment manufacturing.
SBF Chairman and mission leader Mr SS Teo said, “With Singapore’s ASEAN chairmanship this year, SBF is very honoured to lead Singapore’s participation at the 15th CAEXPO and promote Singapore’s brands to the professional visitors from China and the other ASEAN states. For Chinese companies, Singapore has become one of the most viable partners to work with through third-country collaboration. For Singapore businesses, ASEAN remains a key focus region for internationalization, with half the companies surveyed keen to expand further into ASEAN, according to SBF’s latest National Business Survey. ASEAN countries, located along the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), can look forward to rising opportunities relating to regional infrastructure development. Singapore will continue to actively contribute to BRI as a connector and aggregator for the region and beyond. As Singapore aspires to be the Infrastructure Hub for Asia, it can offer expertise across the infrastructure value chain, including master-planning, engineering design, financing, legal service, procurement, construction and operations.”
In line with the 15th CAEXPO’s focus on innovation and Singapore’s focus on “Resilience and Innovation” for its ASEAN chairmanship in 2018, the theme of Singapore National Pavilion at the 15th CAEXPO is "Singapore – A Liveable and Sustainable City for Innovation". Featuring 31 Singapore companies, the pavilion showcases Singapore’s iconic companies, brands and services which help drive innovation in Singapore, namely Infrastructure, Transport & Logistics, ICT/Ecommerce, Professional Services and Education & Research, as well as the three Singapore-China government-to-government projects. One of the highlights of this year is the cutting-edge VR demonstration of Singapore’s three key areas: Tourist Paradise, Financial Capital of Asia, World Leader in MedTech.
The Commercial Pavilion will feature 20 companies and 8 trade associations and chambers, including Singapore brands and services which focus on areas including Education, Hospitality and Professional services, Lifestyle, and F&B sectors, which will serve to enhance Singapore’s image as a modern and liveable city which appeals to both Chinese and ASEAN investors. To feature Singapore’s innovation and education, new exhibitors including Amedians App Enterprise, Quantum Jump Pte Ltd, Kinderworld International Group & Pegasus Education Group, and Modern Montessori International Pte Ltd have joined us this year.
A Singapore Day Seminar themed "Connecting Singapore and ASEAN to the World" will be held on 13 September, featuring speakers from Enterprise Singapore, Economic Development Board, Singapore International Arbitration Centre, Donaldson & Burkinshaw, United Overseas Bank (China) Limited, as well as other professional companies.
The Seminar will provide insights into Singapore’s strengths in arbitration, legal, and finance, as well as promote Singapore as a regional hub for the 21st century Maritime Silk Road and an essential gateway to ASEAN and the regional markets.
Co-sponsored by China and the 10 ASEAN member states, CAEXPO has been held for 14 consecutive years since 2004 and it is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a series of business activities. It serves as an international economic and trade event to promote economic cooperation between ASEAN and China through activities such as investment promotion seminars and trade exhibitions.
