SBF Supports Global Services Coalition Call for WTO Ministers to Redouble Efforts to Make Progress Toward a High Standard e-Commerce Framework
Statement from Mr Ho Meng Kit, CEO, SBF
23 January 2019 [Singapore] - The Singapore Business Federation (SBF), as a member of the Asia Pacific Services Coalition (APSC), strongly supports the call by the Global Services Coalition for WTO Ministers to redouble efforts to make progress toward a high standard e-commerce framework, which aims to facilitate the flow of trade in goods and services globally.
Mr Ho Meng Kit, SBF CEO, highlighted the increasing importance of e-commerce in international trade, as it provides opportunities for businesses, particularly SMEs, to offer and sell their products and services on the global marketplace. “It is timely and crucial to establish a comprehensive and high standard e-commerce framework at the multilateral level to ensure that most, if not all, countries and businesses will be able to participate and enjoy its enormous benefits. In support of the Singapore Government’s effort on this very important initiative, SBF will be happy to gather business insights on specific elements that are relevant to Singapore-based companies, such as cross-border data flows, online payment services, customs clearance, taxation, online security, among other things,” says Mr Ho.
