ASEAN-BAC commended the collective commitment of ASEAN leaders and governments to take action and coordinate policies to mitigate the social and economic impact of COVID-19.
SBF advocates the recommendations put forth by ASEAN-BAC and the business community for ASEAN governments to take bold and decisive actions to work together in implementing urgent measures to ensure uninterrupted supply chains for essential food items, intensify ASEAN-wide trade facilitation by eliminating non-tariff barriers and plan for the gradual re-opening of the economy, amongst other recommendations.1
Mr Ho Meng Kit, CEO of SBF, said, “Now more than ever, regional cooperation is needed to mitigate the wide-ranging socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. On behalf of the business community, SBF urges ASEAN member states to join hands and make every effort to ensure the continued flow of medical supplies and other essentials, while introducing progressive relief measures to help businesses, particularly the SMEs, to overcome this challenging period.
SBF is committed to cooperating with its regional counterparts as well as the wider international business community in an effort to build a more cohesive and responsive ASEAN. At the same time, we are ensuring that we extend much-needed assistance to our businesses in Singapore through various initiatives that address cashflow issues and manpower challenges, while providing advisory services for businesses to navigate this storm.”
