SBF to lead Singapore business community’s interests at China International Import Expo (CIIE) – the most important platform for our companies to seize B2B opportunities and expand into China

As a one-stop import transaction service platform, CIIE:
  • serves as the latest channel for Singapore enterprises to increase cross-border transactions with China in goods and services, offering rich opportunities for fostering partnership and cooperation with businesses in China and beyond.
  • is part of China’s efforts to contribute to regional and global economic growth through the free trade network of the Belt and Road.
  • will draw professional purchasers from China’s domestic market and buyers from around the world.

22 February 2018 [Singapore] – Singapore businesses, big and small, will have another strategic platform to market their products and services to the huge China domestic market and overseas buyers when the inaugural China International Import Expo (CIIE) kicks off on 5 through 10 November 2018 at Shanghai’s National Exhibition and Convention Center.

First announced by President Xi Jinping at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in May 2017, CIIE underpins the Chinese Government’s major investments to improve the supply-demand balance to facilitate global trade, including accelerating customs clearance and upgrading the inspection and quarantine system.
The inaugural Expo’s theme “New Era, New Platform” signals the Chinese Government's move towards a new era of high-level opening-up, representing an important landmark in the Chinese market’s continual accessibility to the world. CIIE will be an important platform to bring together countries and businesses to strengthen economic cooperation and trade.

The first CIIE comprises three components: Country Pavilion for Trade and Investment, Commercial exhibition for Enterprise and Business, as well as International Trade Forum (refer to Annex for more details). SBF will lead the participation of Singapore companies as exhibitors and delegates to CIIE.

“China is expected to import goods and services worth more than USD10 trillion, providing an unprecedented opportunity for businesses. SBF encourages Singapore enterprises to leverage the opportunities from CIIE to further expand into the Chinese market as the Expo is an accessible and vibrant platform to connect with buyers from China and the world. SBF is fully committed to facilitating Singapore companies’ participation in this inaugural Expo to showcase the strengths and competitiveness of Singapore’s brand of goods and services,” said SBF Chairman Mr. S.S. Teo. “By 2022, 76 per cent of China’s urban population will be middle-class. Singapore enterprises keen on venturing overseas or transforming their expansion strategies will benefit greatly from showcasing their products and services at CIIE,” he added.

“CIIE, which will showcase goods and services from around the globe, will serve as a new platform to ‘buy global and sell global’. The Chinese Government sincerely welcomes government officials, business communities, exhibitors and professional purchasers to participate in CIIE. We will do our best to facilitate the participation of Singapore enterprises, providing necessary assistance and support for them to explore opportunities in China,” said Mdm Zhong Manying, Economic and Commercial Minister-Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Singapore. Mdm Zhong added that there will be multiple channels connecting the participants, including targeted matchmaking fairs and a one-stop platform offering online and offline transaction services.

Hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai Municipal Government, CIIE is expected to host businesses from more than 100 countries and regions. The Expo is supported by the World Trade Organization and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. The Singapore business community’s participation is led by SBF in close collaboration with the China International Import Expo Bureau and National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) Co., Ltd, both organisers of the Expo. SBF is honoured to spearhead and facilitate Singapore companies’ participation at CIIE, in partnership with various trade associations and chambers, to help kick-start their export expansion plan into China.
