Singapore Business Community Celebrates the Nation’s Golden Jubilee
4 August 2015 [Singapore] - Minister for Trade and Industry Mr Lim Hng Kiang celebrates Singapore’s golden jubilee with the business community this morning at the National Day Observance Ceremony organised by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF).
Held at the Suntec City Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Federation and both local and overseas Trade Associations and Chambers (TACs) are coming together for the first time to commemorate SG50.
Over the past 50 years, companies have played significant roles in developing Singapore’s economy and in creating jobs for Singaporeans. As a small and open city state, the competitive business environment that Singapore has successfully nurtured over the past decades has served to attract substantive businesses to the country. The business community has much to be proud of for the significant part they have played in Singapore’s 50 years of growth and prosperity.
As the business community celebrates the nation’s 50th birthday, it is also important that we continue to work closely together to achieve greater heights and aim to reach a new milestone for the nation’s continual progress.
SBF Chairman Mr SS Teo said “I urge the business community and TACs to continue to work closely together in the years ahead, so that we can build on the strong foundation of our pioneer generation and be geared for tomorrow’s success. A continued strong partnership between all three; workers, businesses and government will be needed for the future.”
Ms Margaret Heng, Executive Director of the Singapore Hotel Association said “This celebration is especially meaningful for us as it is a period of growth for the hotel industry as well.”Mr Victor Mills, Chief Executive of Singapore International Chamber of Commerce (SICC) said, “For SICC and its members, National Day each year is a time to celebrate the teamwork of Singaporeans and residents and their collective achievements in building and sustaining this very special country.”
