Singapore Regional Business Forum 2015
The inaugural Singapore Regional Business Forum (SRBF) held today, 27 July 2015, at The Ritz Carlton, Millenia Singapore, was attended by over 400 participants including representatives from 22 embassies and foreign ministries. Organised by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF), the Forum serves as a neutral and constructive platform to foster multi-lateral cooperation between countries in the region.
Themed the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road”, experts and industry leaders in their respective fields gathered during the event to discuss and share insights on the business implications and opportunities of the Maritime Silk Road across a spectrum of sectors such as maritime infrastructure, shipping and trade, finance, tourism and hospitality.
The Forum aimed to not only provide deep insight into the business implications of the Silk Road initiative as a whole, but also addressed the political, strategic and economic opportunities that Singapore can capitalise on.
Beyond politics and commerce, the various panel discussions also looked at how the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road can further establish cooperation between Asia and the rest of the world through cultural interaction aimed at strengthening the economic partnerships between countries. In addition, Singapore will leverage its role as a major financial, transportation, logistics and maritime hub to facilitate trade and investment in this fast growing region.
This SBF-led initiative also marked 25 years of diplomatic ties between China and Singapore.
Keynote speakers who graced the event include Professor Tommy Koh, Chairman of the Governing Board at the Centre for International Law, and Her Excellency Fu Ying, Chairperson, Foreign Affairs Committee of the 12th National People’s Congress, PRC. Mrs Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Transport, was Guest-of-Honour at the Plenary Luncheon.
SBF plans to develop this regional business forum into a high profile annual event, to provide thought leadership for business development and co-operation in the region and beyond.
